How can we improve Huel? (both product and service)

@miked I haven’t. A big part of it for me is the convenience so the less I have to do/add to it the better.

@Charlotte_Huel That’s a good way to phrase it. I prefer the macro split of the 3.0 versus the black.

I agree, and this way, you can add your own preferred sweetener should you wish to.

Provide a caffeine free option.

Some people don’t like it. Some people need to avoid it for health reasons.

I have a genetic mutation (and many more do who haven’t had genetic testing to know that) that causes slow and intense processing of caffeine (takes a long time to hit, hits for a long time, hits hard - no sleep for 36 hours). 12 oz. of decaf coffee has too much caffeine for me (and many others).

I got bamboozled with caffeine.

I’ve been using your product for years, and am constantly advising friends to use it.

Caffeine is a drug - the lack of clear notification of it being added (green tea extract and Kombucha powder) is a problem.

Lack of clear labeling of caffeine content PER SERVING is a problem.

I will now have to find a replacement product, for something that has helped me lose 150 pounds over 2 years. I’m extremely disappointed in Huel’s choice around this.

Just started using Huel. So far my only suggestion would be to switch to metal measuring cups for the powder.

service and branding is great! I love how minimalist everything looks while still looking friendly and accessible.

I don’t know if the wire ball that comes with the Blender Bottle is proprietary but including something like that with the shaker cup would be great.

I would also like to see more US-specific branding and flavorings. We tend to like saltier and spicier food here so most of Hot and Savory would be better like if they actually tasted spicy. Examples I could think of would be a retooled chili, a burrito bowl, some garlicky mediterranean flavor, and like a breakfast hash flavor would go down well here. To most of us, curry is butter chicken as it’s not as ubiquitous of a food here. I know salt content is a real issue but maybe like a potassium chloride instead of sodium chloride would work.

For the drinks, a St. Patrick’s day LTO flavor a la the Shamrock Shake would win over a lot of people. Also anything that tastes like a Girl Scout cookie. Branding isn’t important but we go nuts over things that taste like other things.

Mainly, there should be a US specific test kitchen if there isn’t already. Do I sound America centric right now? Yes. But there are so many people here that could benefit from Huel but right now the language spoken isn’t necessarily translating.

@CaffeineMutation The people on here(staffers) have stated that the only Huel mixes with caffeine are chocolate and coffee flavors. You can double check, but the kombucha itself isn’t supposed to add caffeine to it.

It would be best if ALL flavours were caffeine free. 90mg of caffeine per 400kcal is just too much, even if consumed as a breakfast.

Hi, long time Huel (& Soylent, + many others) user here. I love the direction you’ve gone with the Huel Black formulation. You do almost everything more right than your major competition IMO. However, I think there’s major untapped potential in the single serving product space.

Problem:
Bottled Huel’s macros (and flavor IMO) are worse than the powdered version. Plus the shipping weight, the cost per kcal, and the environmental impact are drastically worse.

Here’s an optimal solution:
Ship servings in flat little collapsable water bottles made of sheet plastic, with a screw top. You unscrew, add water, then shake and knead the bladder to mix. It will mix well, cost less than a rigid bottle at scale, and pack lighter.

The details of how you do this can vary. The material you already use for Huel bags is nice and rugged.
This is far more elaborate than what I envision, but hopefully the image will get the point across: https://www.amazon.com/96-Pack-Wholesale-Collapsible-Carabiner/dp/B087JWKCYJ

I don’t know if I am in the minority here or not, but I would love the Huel Black Coffee Caramel to be changed to Cafe Latte like the regular Huel. The reason for this is simple. Huel Black now has a Salted Caramel flavor. So by changing it to a regular coffee flavor we can add either the Chocolate, Vanilla, or Salted Caramel to it to make our own coffee flavor combinations. I prefer the Huel Black over the regular Huel and I don’t really want to have a separate subscription just for the regular Huel Cafe Latte. I think this would be a great change. Thoughts?

I’ve been primarily eating Huel H&S after making my first purchase… I bought all the flavors. I don’t know why, but the green curry flavor tastes offputting to me. I think it might be because I’m also someone who thinks cilantro tastes like soap, but that’s a knee jerk thought.

Looking at my next purchase, I’m going to omit the green curry and tomato basil. The TB flavor is nice but some of the vegetables sometimes don’t soften up after cooking and it’s crunchy in a bad way… Like, I kinda wonder if I’m eating sticks way, lol.

Criticism aside, I really want more flavors!

Another thing I noticed – I think this is because food normally give some digestion issues for me (IBD?) was that Huel H&S made me…pretty gassy at first lol. I just kind of kept eating it and I noticed over time the issue sort of went away.

Samples would be awesome! To try flavors at a reduced price before you buy a whole bag and or different versions and then your not happy with it .

Have you all thought about packaging Huel in non plastic containers? I love your products but I feel bad purchasing things with plastic. I’ve bought protein powder in cardboard containers before. Perhaps that’s an option?

@judysaund we certainly have, we have put hundreds if not thousands of hours in looking for, testing, and creating non plastic containers. It’s an extremely difficult task.

I totally agree with VkngApclyps

It would be great if you could make the change he suggested - and I think most users would agree.

Sell Hot & Savory in a Value Size bag. The current 7 serving H&S bags are SO small. I think the powder Huels (17 servings per bag) strike a good balance between the economy of size and ease of storage. I do all my Huel meals, both powder and H&S, as 150% serving size so I only get about 5 meals per H&S bag. I’d love to see double-size H&S bags so they’re roughly the same 17 servings size of the powder Huel. Those bags would actually sit on my Huel shelf alongside my Huel Black more easily than the small bags do. And larger bags might result in less packaging.

I can imagine the issue with larger H&S bags is that powder ingredients sift out of the chunky ingredients and in a larger bag it will be harder to re-mix them together by shaking the bag up before scooping. That does need to be addressed. Someone on the forum once suggested that H&S come with the powder in a separate bag/compartment from the dried vegetables and then the user mixes them to order. I’d be fine with that if it solves a problem.

Aloha,

I really love Huel Hot&Savory! There are a couple which are my favorites but I do enjoy them all. The “spicey” ones aren’t exactly spicey for people who love to eat spicey foods, but still, they’re very tasty enough.

Honestly, I just wish that you guys didn’t charge so much for shipping to Hawaii. :call_me_hand:

We’re just another state in the U.S. and use the exact same postal service as the rest of the country.

LOOKING FORWARD TO BEING A CUSTOMER IF POSSIBLE: Unfortunately gmo allergens keeping consumption organic is just a few problems plaguing excellent consumer products. A couple of other issues are 1) harmful chemical use rather than natural preserves etc. and 2) eventual sell-out due to big money offers down the line (with eventual depletion of pure product). If you’d be so kind as to llist any chemicals so called productenhancements/ perseveratives if any. Especially of ‘opid origins’ would greatly appreciate (they can create highly allergic eventual deadly reaction
over many years).
2) For ‘life’s sacred karmic sake’ never be a sell out from ur true intent of giving well being. Boecause we will have to come back again and again until we get it right.

Thank you. Looking forward to being a customer if possible. Rasheedah in MB FL

Have you tried a zip lock bag? You can reuse them if you handle with with care.

Don’t know if this has already been suggested but I’d like dispensers for huel. Similar to cereal dispensers but not clear because huel can’t be exposed to light regularly. And importantly, rather than pulling a lever and huel being dispensed until you let go, you should pull a lever and exactly one scoop comes out every time. Ideally, some kind of gauge so you can see how much huel is in there would be good too, being that it would have to be opaque.

Ooh. A knob that you can turn to scoop from the bottom of the hopper.

Even better if it has two independent hoppers because i like half black caramel and half white U/U (tbh, I’d buy two since my wife likes chocolate and whatever flavor i have open)

Maybe a spiral/screw that measures-out some amount per turn?

It needs to hold a whole bag. I’m annoyed enough that my coffee grinder doesn’t hold a full 16oz of cofee, Huel are huge by comparison.
