Hi. What type of sweeteners are used in the flavor boosts? Also which kind do you recommend for the unflavored Huel?
Hi there There are no sweeteners used in our flavor boosts. While the flavor boosts typically taste best with the Vanilla Huel, we’ve had Huelers find workarounds usually by adding vanilla extract or a sweetener such as monk fruit to enhance the flavor. I wouldn’t say there is any one flavor that goes best with the U/U Huel, but the US team seems to fancy the chocolate mint and the cappuccino the most.
Unflavored Huel is a blank slate that can be flavored up with so many things. Common additives are
- Stevia packets
- Frozen fruits
- Banana, fresh or frozen
- Applesauce or apple slices
- Peanut Butter or PB powder
- Milks, cow or non-dairy
For example, my dinner yesterday was : 250 ml milk, 250 ml water, 2 scoops U/U Huel, 2 tablespoons applesauce, 2 tablespoons peanut butter, a smidgen of pumpkin pie spice (cinnamon powder also works)
I’ve also added banana slices in place of apple or in addition to apple to the above formula.
Some of us are using an artificial flavoring called Iso Splash, but be warned that does contain Sucralose.
Thanks for both of your replies! I’m really loving Huel. Best product of its kind I’ve tried. I’m just slightly paranoid about consuming artificial sweeteners every day especially since Huel is about 90% of my diet. I’ll try the unsweetened with some flavor boosts next order, and I can always add my own sweetener if I don’t find it palatable. Thanks again.
= is still not enough, IMO. Maybe you’ll find it okay, but probably not. Taste test it first at home. Don’t just add the flavor boost to the U/U Huel and then try it the first time at work with no alternative.
Their flavor boosts are designed to change the flavor. They add no sweetness to it at all. Unsweetened oats, protein powder, and flaxseed is very boring.
