I started replacing all my meals with Huel Essential a week ago. I feel my mental and physical health progressively improving as my intake of sugar and saturated fat has decreased.
Here is my question. I saw an article stating that Huel Essential omits some vitamins and minerals found in Huel Original that are not considered absolutely essential. Huel Original provides 150g of protein per 2000 kcal, so for my goal of replacing all meals, I believe Huel Essential is more suitable due to its better balance of carbohydrates, protein, and fats.
What are the exact nutrients that are in Huel Original but not in Huel Essential?
And, what would be good to additionally consume or supplement?
Hey there! Welcome to the Huel Forum!
Huel Original just has additional phytonutrients like lutein and zeaxanthin when compared to Huel Essential, but that’s it.
However, a 100% Huel diet isn’t something we’d actively recommend for most healthy individuals. This is because variety is important to dietary intake. Relying on Huel alone doesn’t offer the best possible dietary variety, hence why we’d encourage you to mix it up wherever you can, especially with a variety of fruits, veggies, whole grains and different protein sources.
Most Hueligans enjoy having Huel 1-2 times per day alongside a generally healthy diet, especially during inconvenient meal times. For example, breakfast is often a meal people struggle to fit in, so they will have Huel at breakfast to ensure they are starting their day with a nutrient-dense meal.
So you could definitely start using regular Huel Powder or take supplements to make sure you’re getting some of those phytonutrients in, or you could make sure to eat some leafy vegetables (kale, spinach, broccoli, collard greens), egg yolks, or other phytonutrient-rich foods from time to time!
