Huel savory- kids

I know under the faq huel it is not recommended for children under 4 but does this also apply to huel savory? my kids go crazy to try it whenever i make it.

thanks in advance!

Hi Nicole  The recommendations for Huel Hot and Savory are the same as the recommendations for Huel powder and children/adolescents that we have on our website which I linked here and it depends on their age!

Oops, I just asked a similar question in another conversation. My teenage son is crazy about the Hot&Savory meals and would live on them exclusively if we let him.

Hey there!

Generally, the nutritional needs of 16-year-olds are close to (if not the same) as adult recommendations, so our suggestions around the number of daily portions would be the same. For Hot & Savory specifically, due to the nature of the recipes, a key consideration would be the sodium content of some flavors. Consuming more than two portions a day would bring your son closer to the maximum recommended intake of sodium, so we’d suggest two portions a day as a more sensible regular intake and then introducing something different for his third meal of the day.

Hope this is helpful!

Yes, that is helpful. Since I introduced him to the Hot & Savory meals, I have rationed him to no more than two per day, although he would consume five to get his 2000 calories if we let him.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I understood that one can live off the Huel powder exclusively without exceeding dietary limits. Is that the case? (Well, except for oxalates, which limits servings to 2/day for kidney stone formers). It seems that this isn’t the case for the Hot & Savory meals; consuming them exclusively may result in an unbalanced diet with certain nutrients.

Hey there,

It depends. If we assumed three meals a day and no other foods (or foods without sodium), you would be at 1920mg sodium at most, or within the general dietary guideline of 2300mg. If you had 5 meals a day, as you might with the Huel powders, you would be at at least 2400mg, so not within guidelines. I think we probably allowed more sodium in this product because it’s the type of meal people only have for lunch/dinner, or no more than 2 times a day anyway, but clearly this is not always the case!

For the Huel powders and Ready-to-Drink, this is correct: 5 servings alone should not take you over 2300mg or the max for any other nutrient.

I believe 5 servings of the Black Edition Ready-to-Drink might also take you above the maximum recommendation for saturated fat (30g vs rec 20g), but I think that this is another product we don’t expect people to have 5 times a day.
