In the past year I’ve had significantly different experiences with the huel recipe changes. The hot meals are so much better with the newer pasta choice, which no longer leaves me having crunchy pasta. The daily greens have a better texture, but the ingredients felt sacrificed as a result. This is one product where I would happily give up texture for health benefits.
Then there’s huel black, which seems to have a better flavor but is consistently terrible at mixing completely. I’ve used this for a few years now and have always been fine with a shaker bottle, but the latest recipe leaves me chewing big chunks of huel as I have my drink. It’s fine if I use a blender, but I’m typically on the go when I have these so that’s just not practical. Is this a common experience now and is huel planning to do anything to improve it?
Welcome to the US forum! So glad to hear that the texture of the Hot & Savoury and Daily Greens has improved as a result of the recipe changes.
Just to clarify in regards to the Daily Greens, the ingredients that were reduced included oats, tapioca, inulin and flax, which mainly contributed macronutrients rather than micronutrients. As a supplement, Daily Greens was never designed to significantly contribute macros such as fiber, but rather to deliver all 26 essential vitamins and minerals, as well as a range of antioxidant greens, adaptogens and probiotics, which, aside from spirulina and chlorella, have not been reduced in the new formula despite the decreased scoop size. In fact, we’ve increased the concentration in some cases.
As far as the Black Edition Powder: yes, we are currently working on improving the texture and particularly the solubility of the US recipe! However, we’re not able to share much about the exact changes or timeline at this point. Just keep an eye out!
In the meantime, for a smoother texture (sans blender) I recommend letting the shake chill in the fridge for a few hours or even overnight. Adding ice cubes before shaking (for at least 20 seconds) can also help break down the powder. You can also try mixing with a milk or milk alternative.
I hope this is helpful! Feel free to reach out if you have any more questions or to email support@huel.com with your batch details if any bag in particular has an unideal texture!
