How can we improve Huel? (both product and service)

Also - I forgot to add!
Throwing in an additional 5% discount on subscription orders with a cap of 10% would decrease the chance of customers taking advantage of the loyalty plan because the discounts would apply solely to a continuing subscription order. Hence, making abuse of the subscription ordering process (i.e., make a subscription, get the order, cancel the subscription) a moot point. Which might relieve some stress on customer support having to step in every other day to help cancel a “one-time” subscription.

How about having a version that goes the other way with the macros, with 80/10/10 carbs/protein/fat?

I feel that the protein level is too high currently, so I’ve been adding a scoop of sugar to each serving.

Also, would it be possible to bring back the original vanilla? I just started Huel, and I really liked the original vanilla. I got the new vanilla this past week, and to be honest, it tastes kind of gross. I already changed my subscription to try the other flavors.

I have seen many people make this comment on this website and I don’t understand it. If you have to buy FOOD for the week, every week, like I do and you use Huel, instead of going grocery shopping, you are SAVING money! I am on a tight budget also, that’s why I decided to go with Huel for my meals at Work (I have Huel 2 times at work). I can find really bad for you microwave meals that are only $1 but I would have to eat 2 of them just to survive, and they are super high in sodium and NOT good for you. Huel is $1.75 per serving, and $1.55 if you get a referral. You can’t buy food that cheap, especially food that is as good for you as Huel. So, if you are on a tight budget, then Huel is the way to go. Replace 2 of your 3 meals per day with Huel and you will save yourself money, stretching your budget!

You can improve Huel by no getting rid of a flavor that everyone is used to, with absolutely no lead time. I understand that I am just a single consumer and that I don’t matter to you in the balance sheets, but you are making it way too obvious with a move like this.

I don’t know if everyone was used to it. I saw tons of complaints in threads about the flavor of the original. And now there’s tons of complaints about the new flavor when they tried to fix it. There really is no way to please everyone. Me, personally, can’t really tell the difference anyway.

Please stop adding sucralose. It tastes terrible and ruins all of the flavored products. Can’t people add their own sweeteners if they want to? It is not so complicated to do that. They don’t sell coffee and tea with the sweeteners built in.

Huel does offer unflavored and unsweetened.

Unflavored and Unsweetened Huel has been offered since the beginning. No sucralose and no artificial flavoring.

Actually, about half of the coffee and tea products sold in grocery stores have artificial flavoring/sweetening added to them. My wife’s Keurig collection is full of these hazelnut, pumpkin spice, morning bliss, passion flavor, desert teas, etc.

You are so right @gsenteno there is no way to please everyone.

Taste and texture are very subjective.

I’ve been in my tasting sessions when equal number of people have said the same product was too sweet, just right, or not sweet enough. Or too thick, too thin, or just right.

It’s super tricky to get it right.

I have a few questions/concerns that I hope either you or another huel member can answer:

  1. Why can’t both be offered? Both are still offered in the UK.
  2. Why was there no warning that the original would be leaving? Given that its still available in the UK it was fair to assume it wouldn’t be removed here. It would have been nice to have had the option to stock up.
  3. Was there no survey like there was in the UK asking about peoples preferences?
  4. Removing one of four flavors is very questionable. Especially considering that many people don’t like chocolate in general (not just huel), many people are skeptical of berry flavored products, and the unflavored unsweetened literally has a warning that you might not like it. I’ve never heard anyone say they don’t like vanilla flavoring.
  5. As many people have noted, the new ‘Vanilla’ doesn’t remotely taste like vanilla. Many people are saying it tastes like cake batter. It also overpowers pretty much any flavoring you add to it.
  6. Many complaints apparently were that the original was too sweet. But Americans are notorious for having a sweet tooth!

Thanks in advance!

Whoops! Didn’t actually hit ‘reply’ to you in the post above.

Heyo!

  1. We technically still offer Original to subscribers–once stock is out though, we are no longer producing it. To confirm, all UK products are different than US and have different flavor components so what is original vanilla in the UK is not what you have tried in the US.
  2. We sent out a survey to our customers, but surveys don’t always include every customer so you may have missed it, but we heavily researched this changed.
  3. Same as above.
  4. It’s not removing a flavor, it’s a new flavor.
  5. Taste is subjective, and many people have said the original vanilla is too synthetic so that’s what we have changed the formula to a more natural vanilla.
  6. Again, taste is extremely subjective and unfortunately we can’t please every individual when there is a product change. :frowning:

Do you like the unsweetened Huel? I recommend mixing the unsweetened and the vanilla if you want to tone down the vanilla vibes.

First off thanks for replying to each point!

I’m still confused as to why both can’t be offered though. Also, I disagree with the “not removing it” as it was replaced with something with a very different taste. Was it really not that popular of a flavor? I feel like it would’ve been one of the most popular based on my previous reasoning.

I’ve tried mixing it with both the unflavored unsweetened and the chocolate but the new ‘vanilla’ completely overpowers both of them with a distinctly bad taste.

There are people that don’t like Chocolate? :astonished: What? I can’t believe that. I could order ONLY Chocolate Huel but I add the Vanilla just to mix it up a little. I’m looking forward to trying this new Vanilla. I’ll see if I get it in my next order.

Any chance we might see an option to order a Flavor Assortment RTD case?

i’ve only tried two of the three flavors offered so far, just starting with Huel about a month ago and finishing up with my first order, but to have more flavor options at to how Huel tastes BY ITSELF would be great. the idea of adding flavor boosts is in itself a good idea, being able to augment your shakes to a specific desired taste, but i feel that if more of the base products flavor options were made available it would only increase the amount of options that the boosts could create, leading to further sales!! right?!
when i placed my first order i received a shirt. while the shirt is comfortable and fits well, it is plain. i contacted support to find out if i could submit a design for inclusion with future outerwear purchases and was told that this probably wouldn’t be happening… but why not make it fun!? hold a contest for anyone interested once a year to come up with a new Huel design that will be put on clothing. winner of the design contest gets a set of clothing with the design in place…
the website and everything else works as intended. no complaints, no issues yet. just a couple ideas i thought i’d throw out there.

Just adding to my vote that I prefer the Original Vanilla Flavor. Just got on the Huel bandwagon so I am pretty bummed. I liked the more “simple” flavor because it isn’t a distinct flavor, it is muted and something that I can just eat and then I am no longer hungry anymore. The vanilla tastes like I am eating sweet ice cream and as much as I appreciate recommendations on how to alter and adjust the flavor, the whole point for me to using Huel was that it was simple and I didn’t have to think about changing the flavor or adding anything to it. I just want to not be hungry.

I hope that perhaps the Original Vanilla Flavor isn’t gone forever and may make a return in the future…I can only hope. I appreciate all the work that goes into it and I know a lot of time went into changing it, I am just thinking…why not have both? (cautiously optimistic)

I’m going to speak up for the silent minority and say:
I’m pretty excited to try the new vanilla! Maybe it does taste like cake batter and maybe it does taste very sweet to nearly the point of making your teeth hurt - but that sounds delicious to me, especially when I heard it compared to the vanilla flavor of most protein shakes! It’s what I loved most about Muscle Milk - it was like waking up each day to get to drink a milkshake :yum: I’m on a strict diet and can’t eat even a cookie or a piece of cake (which sucks if you’re a bakery chef and can’t even get a lick of frosting like me) and of course my lunch and dinner are savory dishes. So getting to justify drinking an “almost” milkshake every morning was GREAT and I missed that. When you get to start each morning with a delicious shake and know everything in it is healthy for you - it made me that much more inclined to drink it because it was just so easy. I heard a lot of the same complaints about berry flavor, and I bought a bag just to try it out - even though I thought I wouldn’t like it due to everyone on here talking poorly about it. And even on the site, chocolate and vanilla are either the best sellers or the customer favorites, but berry wins no accolades. I was actually pre-bummed because I thought it’d be a waste of money in buying berry. But I tried it today and it’s FANTASTIC! I’m not sorry to go against the crowd here, I’m excited to try the new vanilla and start each day with some sweetness :yum::birthday:
If you want something with a more vague flavor and a hint of a hint of vanilla, why not add a whisper of watered down vanilla essence to U/U? :joy:

I’m fine with the new vanilla to stick around but we should also continue to have the option to order the original. We shouldn’t be forced to find ways to mask the flavor or switch to unsweetened and add our own sweetener. Why can’t both be available?

This new Huel flavor is terrible, and telling all your customers flavor is subjective is a great way to lose them. You had an amazing product before, I can’t say the same now.
