Huel and Lupus Flare Allergens?

Hey there!

Sorry for the delay, here! We are so happy to hear that Huel has helped you manage your condition, and that you’re doing better! Congratulations on getting (and keeping) that amazing job!! Thank you so much for sharing this with us.

We do not use alfalfa, echinacea, or spirulina in our Black Edition products. We do use echinacea in our Daily Greens and Daily Superblend products and spirulina in our Daily Greens powder, so I would recommend avoiding those two products.

While I don’t believe our product developers were looking specifically to avoid lupus allergens, I don’t think we would use any of these ingredients in our meal products (Black Edition, Huel Powder, Essential, etc.) any time soon. These are more apt for a superfood/supergreens product, which is not what we’re trying to achieve with the Black Edition or Huel Powder, which are meant just to provide all the essential nutrients your body needs. We’ve specifically tried recently to remove inessentials and redundancies so that our product is more accessible and less complex, such as eliminating kombucha in the new Black Edition recipe. This makes the Black Edition accessible to those with tea allergies, for example!

Thank you also for sharing this article with us! Based on the article, I think Huel is such a great fit because it’s rich in omega-3s (which is not a priority for companies making pure protein powders) and selenium, it’s gluten-free, and the Black Edition specifically has probiotics.

I’ve passed the article to our Nutrition and Technical Teams, as well, to have a look! Let us know if you have any other questions.
