I’ve been using huel for a couple months now, the black label powders, huel bars, and hot and savory meals. It made me feel so much better when I first started, I think I was fairly nutrition deficient.
But unfortunately the gi upset has worsened over time. I used to be able to tolerate 2-3 replaced meals per day. Today I had only a half a serving and ended up with severe gas. I know for me it’s not the high protein content, as I was used to a 30-35% protein diet, and it seems like the huel reduces my daily protein intake. I’m guessing it’s either the pea protein or the MCT coconut oil, since both of those foods have given me similar GI issues in the last.
I am so bummed because I love the taste of these foods and when I started I felt a lot more energetic. But I have had to reduce my usage over time, and the gas is so bad I can’t go out into public!
I also haven’t had luck with digestive enzymes in the past, so I don’t think there’s much of a fix other than scrapping the pea protein and coconut oil. Are there other similar meal replacements out there that are nutritionally balanced but use whey or casein instead of pea protein?
