I currently eat like shit, a mediocre medium-sized breakfast, clif bar for lunch, and then a large dinner and late night snack. The clif bar would normally tide me over until dinner, but when I tried switching it out for huel (which contains more everything than a clif bar) I’ve started getting hungry only a couple hours after lunch, and ravenous by 5pm (normally eating around 6:30-7:30pm before).
I’ve tried RTD white and powder white (2 scoops, haven’t been able to get down more tbh)
I’ve tried chugging and sipping over the course of an hour.
I’ve tried refrigerating overnight until it was super thick, this made me feel full during the meal but no effect long term.
Some have suggested having multiple throughout the day but the main draw for me is convenience.
I know my diet is shit, but how did switching to huel make it feel worse?
Also, while switching to a blender did get rid of chunks (essential to make it edible) there’s still little bits of dry powder unless you refrigerate it to soak overnight. Any way around this?
Update: Went back to my old lunch, plus some pistachios, same result. So something else must have changed. Weird that it perfectly coincided with me starting huel though.
Welcome to the Huel Forum, and sorry to hear that you’ve had trouble feeling sated lately!
Have you tried talking to your primary care provider or a dietitian? They may be able to help you identify what’s changed lately, as it could be a number of things (activity level, sleep, medication, nutrient deficiency, or even hormone levels).
Overall, Huel is a nutritious, convenient meal solution for when you need it, but it’s no replacement for a balanced diet of fruits, veggies, whole grains, and different protein sources. Your whole diet is important to take into account, and if you’re struggling to meet your nutritional needs, there are resources out there to help you get on track! MyPlate is a good place to start.
As for the powder texture, I usually leave the shake in the fridge for just a few hours, rather than overnight. You can mix with milk or a milk alternative to help smooth things out, and make sure to mix with ice for at least 20 seconds. The Ready-to-Drink overall might be a better fit, as it’s much smoother!
