Just tried the Korean BBQ cups for the first time and it was really amazingly good. I dearly hope these come to the pouches because both due to the size and the extra cost the cups are just not something I will order often. But dang is that flavor really good.
Amazing to hear you’re a fan!
Unfortunately coming to cups is not something that is in the pipework but if anything ever changes we’ll be sure to let you know!
Similar here. I like most of the H+S flavors, but regarding the Mac+Cheeze: the earlier version I first had was much better. I remember it being smokier and thicker (I’m pretty consistent with my water amount). The more recent version wasn’t bad, but just not as good in my opinion.
I’d just gone back to order some more and then I noticed these changes. As explained, they do make sense, even if some are a bit frustrating.
The earlier version Mac+Cheeze was great, the second was ok, but meh. Sweet+Sour and Bolognese were both good depending on what I was in the mood for. Tomato+Herb wasn’t “bad,” but was way too tomato-y.
I got introduced to Huel by a friend during the pandemic times and have been using it as a work lunch/back-up lunch since then. I keep several of the big bags in a drawer at my desk and know I’ll always have something tasty and nutritious if I forget to bring food from home and/or don’t want to pay for food out. I even bought a cool larger sized microwave bowl with a locking lid and steam vent just to cook this, noodles, and home meal-prep stuff.
I understand the issues with ingredient layer separation in the big bags, but it can’t be that hard to shake it up.
I’m concerned about the additional packaging this change will cause and the potential contraction in flavor varieties.
A question about the meal pots/cups: I’ve never tried them, but all of the flavors look awesome. Is the added price/meal cost just due to the larger volume rigid container needed to not break the noodles too much and its logistic issues? Will those recipes ever end up in the packs/sachets? I don’t mind broken noodles; most everyone slurps them at the end anyway.
As a long time US customer it really bums me out when my favorite products get the ax. Pasta bolognese and mac and cheeze are my favorite H&S flavors. Chicken and mushroom aren’t even close to a suitable replacement for a red sauce pasta. On top of that I’m allergic to mushrooms in all forms, Once my supply runs out I no longer have a suitable stand in for these. Can I get these shipped from another territory?
Oh dear God, this is devastating.
After not receiving a reply from customer service emailing them a few days ago, I began searching for answers and found this lovely forum (which is better than an email anyway so yay!).
I’m sick to my stomach reading this right now because I’m a flight attendant and I just recently tried Huel. While I wasn’t able to subscribe because I’m on an irregular schedule and need my deliveries to happen when I’m home, I’d just planned out my routine to order about $500 of Huel every month because it’s worked out so well.
Why I feel I’m literally about to cry: mac and cheese was the absolute best product in the world and would likely compose the bulk of my orders every month. I am literally feeling sick that it isn’t available. Don’t mind me. Lot’s of trauma of everything good in my life falling apart.
I’m also extremely sad that I can’t try other flavors like tomato and herb which sounded yummy. TBH, the chick’n and (can’t remember the rest of the name) isn’t all that hot and kind of makes me sick, but I guess I’ll be eating a lot of that soon.
Pretty please find the faith to bring back the other flavors, especially mac and cheese.
Anyway… I kind of like the idea of the upgrade to pouches. I already had to separate out my scoops into ziplocks to save space and make it convenient for me to make my meals on the plane.
Additionally, the pouches will assist me with international travel, because I can take them if they are sealed. This is perfect.
I hope you never switch all to cups because that’s a space-waster.
I was slightly looking forward to maybe doing a 500 kcal serving when I went into bulking, but TBH, I can just pour another half of a pouch if I need to modify the serving.
I guess my TLDR is BRING BACK THAT MAC AND CHEESE NOW BEFORE I DIE.
Anyway…. I have been referring lots of other flight attendants to Huel. They all seem so interested… but now with mac and cheese gone, my heart is totally broken.
Thanks for listening, but most of all thanks for a great product that’s made my life exponentially easier. Please never stop.
RIP mac and cheese that I’ll always crave the taste of…
I just want to add my name to the list of people that are very disappointed with this change. The only three flavors I like are now gone, and I honestly have no interest in any of the remaining hot meal options. I have trouble finding easy, vegan meals that I enjoy, so this really bums me out. Also, I’m unhappy that more packaging will now be used.
Came back to order more mac & cheeze and was disappointed to find it unavailable – after ordering it from this site the first time, I’d been ordering through Amazon due to its lower threshold for free shipping. Tried the pasta bolognese and cajun pasta, they were okay, but not something I wanted to buy again.
Ordered more of the powder for an easy breakfast shake, but didn’t buy any H&S options for lunch since none of the other flavors appeal to me. Will also chime in to say the pre-portioned pouches sound convenient, but if they’re non-recyclable then the appeal is lost on me.
A #10 can with a reusable lid would probably solve the issues with mixing the contents, and would also be recyclable. Just my 2 cents.
Oh, this is not what we want to hear. I’m sorry that you are not a fan of this decision.
We never say never here at Huel so maybe in the future this could be something we see but for now this won’t be something we are looking to re-invent.
Lots to unpack here but I’m sorry that you never received the original communication
Well this was a fairly unpleasant thing to discover when picking up my subscription today. All the flavors I actually liked were delisted, and the new packaging is a swing and a miss as far as I’m concerned; the physical size of my subscription has more than doubled.
If there were any H&S alternatives that shipped to the US this is the kind of thing that would lose me as a customer.
I really like the new packaging I think the cups are so convenient but I wish there was some indication of fill line on the inside not just on the outside like an indentation or something.
Woop woop! Thank you for your response! Customer service also got back to me!
Bummed to be losing some of the variety. I only just started trying the H&S because, while I’d always assumed they would be gross, I eventually decided to give them a chance.
Our whole house loves them. The biggest drawback was always mixture and portability, and the new single packets solve both those problems.
So I’m excited for the new packaging, disappointed that we don’t have as many available flavors anymore, and interested to see what you all have planned in the months and years ahead.
Bottom line: I’m very glad I gave them the chance. They’ll be a part of our subscription for the foreseeable future.
Thank you for the feedback and most of all welcome to the forum!
We always pride ourselves on doing the best for our Hueligans so who knows what the future holds
What a real bummer, I really love Mac&Cheese, while Carbonara is one of the worst ever (can make a better one myself in just 5-10 min. Also disappointed to see spicy huel as top choice, I really dislike spicy food (green thai curry is still fine doe or the Korean box I tried).
On the side note, how can we track the transition in our subscription? I really don’t wanna end up with the tastes I dislike or 6 of the same boxes of one taste. Are we gonna get the new packages along or only after all the old ones get sold out?
We got you!
Before your subscription drops you’ll receive an email 3 days before showing what will be in your order meaning if the change has taken place you’ll be notified before the order is placed.
I cannot wait to try these. I have a subscription order coming up with them, but also will be getting my affiliate box soon. Cheers!
Right after I placed my very first Hot & Savory order, Huel announced the end of Pasta Bolognese. I really wish you’d reconsider. It’s one of my favorites and it cooks perfectly using my method. I’m stocking up on as much as I can get before it’s gone.
Greetings, Hueligans. I just want to register my unhappiness that my 2 favorite hot and savoury flavors are being eliminated from your catalog. I am referring to mac and cheese and pasta bolognese. I was enjoying the fact that Huel was expanding its offerings and giving people a range of flavors to choose from. They were tasty, nutritious, and reasonably priced. Now it seems that the company wants to focus on spicy, Asian flavors. Maybe these are cheaper to produce?
I understand that every company needs to make decisions based on sales figures and production costs. But seeing my favorite items pulled suddenly from the shelves and not replaced with anything does not make me want to buy H&S in greater quantities. Ditto for seeing flavors that I consider rather uninteresting stay on the roster. I refer to the Cajun pasta and the mediocre chili - who would prefer it to real chili? Likewise for the bland coconut curry and the overspiced Indian curry, which I have to mix together to turn them into something enjoyable. The Thai curry and mock chicken pasta are both all right imo.
Thanks for listening, and I hope the new flavors that are coming our way will assuage my irritation. RIP pasta bolognese. You were the best of the hot and savoury line up.
Just a little further commentary after reading Mark’s post all the way through. I think moving to the single serving 400 calorie pouches is a good idea. I do not mind using a scoop, but I can see how this is more convenient. I am a bit more of a “power user” or instant foods enthusiast than the average person. Re the cups, I see them as wasteful and unnecessary, but if that is what the public wants…
I am a little surprised by Mark’s comments regarding separation in the pasta dishes. I learned early on to stir up the pasta a bit before preparing it, or transferring it to a container to bring to the office. That generally took care of any problems. I guess there are a lot of folks out there who are, I hesitate to say, not too bright? Or to be more fair about it, they probably want their convenience food to be quick and easy, and not require any more activity than adding water and shoving it into their mouths.
